As with our face-to-face programs, UMUC Asia Distance Education generally requires the following for prospective instructors:
If accepted, prospective instructors enter into a three-part training process.
First, instructors must complete a five-week, intensive online training class, conducted by the Center of Teaching and Learning (CTL) in Adelphi, Maryland. This course is designed to familiarize faculty with issues involved in online education, as well as to introduce WebTycho, UMUC's online delivery platform.
After finishing the online training class, instructors must complete a six-week shadowing program. New instructors are assigned to observe an existing class and faculty member, to observe a successful class in action and to draw on the expertise of our strongest teachers.
Finally, new instructors are assigned their first class, known as their "pilot" class. In addition to limiting the size of pilot classes, we assign an Instructional Designer to work closely with pilot faculty to ensure a successful first class.
Interested faculty should email Chuck Brechbill , the UMUC Asia Distance Education Program Manager. In your email, please include the following information for review and consideration.
